Shingle Roofing in Hickory, NC
Veteran-owned, CertainTeed & Owens Corning certified, serving Hickory and 9 NC counties since 1995.
Certified Shingle Roofing With Extended Manufacturer Warranties
Asphalt shingles cover the overwhelming majority of homes in the Foothills for good reason: the price-to-lifespan ratio is hard to beat, the color and profile range is enormous, and a well-installed architectural shingle roof will handle everything a Catawba County year throws at it.
S&S Roofing is a certified installer with CertainTeed, Owens Corning, TAMKO, and GAF — including CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster and Owens Corning Platinum Preferred, a tier held by roughly the top 1% of contractors nationwide. Those credentials are what allow us to register extended manufacturer warranties on your roof; a non-certified contractor cannot offer them at any price.
Depending on the shingle you choose, you are looking at anywhere from 25 years to a lifetime of service. Every full shingle re-roof also carries our own 5-year workmanship warranty.
Our Shingle Roofing Services
Architectural Shingle Installation
Dimensional shingles are the standard choice for most homes — thicker, heavier, more wind-resistant, and far better looking than the old three-tab. Available across all four of our certified manufacturers in a wide range of colors.
Designer & Premium Shingles
Luxury profiles that imitate slate or cedar shake, with correspondingly longer warranties and lifespans. A strong option on higher-end homes where the roof is a visible part of the architecture.
Shingle Roof Replacement
Full tear-off to the deck, decking inspection and repair, new underlayment, new flashing, and a new shingle system installed to manufacturer specification. See roof replacement for the full process.
Shingle Repair & Patching
Cracked, curled, lifted, and missing shingles replaced with matched material. Most leaks turn out to be minor repairs like these — see roof repair.
Storm & Hail Damage Shingle Work
Hail bruises shingles in ways that are not always visible from the ground but will absolutely shorten their life. We inspect, document for insurance, and repair or replace as the damage warrants.
Color & Product Selection
With four manufacturer lines to pull from, we help you narrow the choice against your budget, your home's exterior, and your neighborhood — and we bring physical samples so you are not choosing a roof from a brochure.
Why Homeowners Choose Asphalt Shingles
Best Value in Roofing
Architectural asphalt delivers the strongest combination of upfront cost, lifespan, and appearance available. It is the default for most Foothills homes because the math works.
Enormous Style and Color Range
Four certified manufacturers means dozens of profiles and colors, from standard architectural through slate- and shake-imitating designer lines.
Extended Warranties Through Certification
Our SELECT ShingleMaster and Platinum Preferred status unlocks manufacturer warranty tiers that most contractors in this market simply cannot offer.
Proven in This Climate
Modern architectural shingles handle wind, hail, and the freeze-thaw cycling of a Foothills winter — and they can be repaired economically when something does go wrong.
Straightforward to Repair
Unlike some premium systems, a damaged shingle roof can be spot-repaired at reasonable cost, which keeps the total cost of ownership down over its life.
25 Years to Lifetime
Service life ranges from about 25 years on standard architectural up to lifetime-rated on premium designer product. Ventilation and installation quality determine where you actually land.
Why Homeowners Across the Foothills Choose Us
Veteran-Owned Since 1995
S&S Roofing has been veteran-owned and locally operated since 1995 — over 30 years and 4,500+ roofs across the NC Foothills. You are hiring the same company that shows up on your roof.
5-Year Workmanship Warranty
Every full re-roof and full roof replacement carries a 5-year workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer's material warranty. If our installation is the problem, we come back and fix it.
Four Manufacturer Certifications
We are certified with CertainTeed, Owens Corning, TAMKO, and GAF — including CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster and Owens Corning Platinum Preferred, a tier held by roughly the top 1% of contractors nationwide.
Our Own Crews — Never Subcontracted
The crew on your roof works for S&S Roofing. We do not sell your job to a subcontractor, which is how quality and accountability get lost on most roofing projects.
Fully Insured — $2M General Liability
We carry $2M general liability plus workers' compensation. Certificates are available on request before we set foot on your property.
We Own Our Work
If we make a mistake, we make it right. That is the whole policy, and it is why most of our work comes from referrals and repeat customers across nine counties.
Certified Shingle Roofing You Can Actually Rely On
Any contractor can order shingles. Registering an extended manufacturer warranty requires certification, and holding CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster, Owens Corning Platinum Preferred, TAMKO Pro Platinum, GAF, and Atlas PRO+ at the same time requires a track record. S&S Roofing has been building that record in Hickory, Newton, Conover, Taylorsville, Statesville, Morganton, Lenoir, and Lincolnton since 1995 — 4,500+ roofs, veteran-owned, fully insured, and never subcontracted. Free estimates, physical samples, honest recommendations, and a 5-year workmanship warranty on every full re-roof.
Browse Shingles From the Three Brands We Install
We are certified with all three manufacturers, so you can pick on looks and budget rather than on which brand your contractor happens to carry. Browse colors and styles on their sites, then we will bring physical samples to your free inspection — color on a screen never quite matches color on a roof.

Owens Corning
Owens Corning’s Duration® line uses SureNail® technology for a wider, tougher nailing strip, which matters in the wind we get along the ridges. Their TruDefinition® colors hold contrast well as the roof ages. As a Platinum Preferred contractor we can register their longest available warranties.

CertainTeed
Landmark® is the workhorse architectural shingle we install most often, and CertainTeed’s color range is the widest of the three. Our SELECT ShingleMaster status is the top tier they offer, which lets us extend both material and labor coverage well past the standard warranty.

TAMKO
TAMKO’s Heritage® laminated shingles are a strong value option when budget is the deciding factor, without dropping to a three-tab. American-made, and the warranty terms are straightforward. Use their style tool to see what is available for the 28601 area.

What a Shingle Roof Replacement Costs in the Hickory Area
Most roofing companies will not put a number in front of you until they are standing in your driveway. Here is where our asphalt shingle tear-off and replacement pricing starts, so you can budget before you ever call us.
| Roof Size | Approx. Home Footprint | Starting Price |
|---|---|---|
| 15 squares1,500 sq ft of roof | Smaller ranch or starter home | $4,950 |
| 25 squares2,500 sq ft of roof | Typical three-bedroom home | $8,250 |
| 35 squares3,500 sq ft of roof | Larger or multi-gable home | $11,550 |
Pricing current as of February 2026. These are starting prices for a straightforward tear-off and replacement over one existing layer, and they cover the majority of the homes we work on. Material costs move, so we confirm the number in writing at your free inspection.
What a Roofing Square Means
Roofers price by the square — one square is 100 square feet of roof surface. It is not the same as your home’s floor area, because roof pitch adds surface. A 2,000 sq ft single-story home with a moderate pitch usually works out to somewhere around 22 to 26 squares once the overhangs and pitch are measured.
We measure the actual roof rather than estimating from the footprint, so the square count on your quote is the real number.
What Moves the Price Up
Some roofs cost more than the starting price, and we would rather tell you why up front than surprise you:
- Steep pitch. Anything our crews cannot walk safely needs staging and more labor hours.
- Two or more existing layers. More tear-off, more disposal.
- Rotted decking. We do not shingle over bad plywood. Replacement is priced per sheet and shown to you before we install it.
- Complex rooflines. Valleys, dormers, skylights and multiple gables all add cut-in and flashing work.
- Upgraded shingles. Designer and premium lines cost more than standard architectural.
What Is Included in Every Shingle Roof We Install
The gap between a cheap quote and a fair one is usually what got left out. Everything below is part of a standard S&S Roofing replacement, not an upsell.
Full Tear-Off to the Deck
We remove the old shingles down to the wood rather than laying new over old. Shingling over an existing layer traps heat, hides rotted decking, shortens the life of the new roof, and voids most manufacturer warranties. It is cheaper on the quote and more expensive over time.
Decking Inspection and Repair
Once the old roof is off we walk the entire deck. Soft or rotted sheathing gets replaced before anything goes back down. We show you what we found and price it per sheet — you will never get a vague “wood repair” line on the invoice.
Ice and Water Shield Where It Matters
Valleys, eaves, and penetrations get a self-adhering waterproof membrane. These are the places roofs actually leak, and skipping the membrane here is one of the most common corners cut.
New Flashing, Not Reused
Step flashing, pipe boots, and vent flashing are replaced rather than re-bedded in sealant. Reused flashing is the single most common source of the leaks we get called out to repair on roofs installed by someone else.
Proper Ventilation
Ridge vent and adequate intake keep the attic temperature and moisture down. Poor ventilation cooks shingles from underneath and is a warranty exclusion with every manufacturer we install.
Manufacturer-Spec Installation
Nail count, nail placement, starter course, and ridge cap all follow the manufacturer’s published specification. That is what makes the extended warranty registrable — a roof installed off-spec is not covered no matter whose shingles are on it.
Material Defects and Workmanship Are Covered Separately
Homeowners are often surprised to learn these are two different things, and that most roof problems fall under the second one.
Manufacturer Warranty — Covers the Shingles
This covers defects in the material itself: shingles that fail prematurely, lose granules abnormally, or do not perform as manufactured. Because we are certified with CertainTeed, Owens Corning, TAMKO, and Atlas, we can register extended coverage that non-certified installers cannot offer. Length and terms depend on the shingle line you choose, and we go through the actual warranty document with you before you sign anything.
Our Workmanship Warranty — Covers the Installation
Every full re-roof we install carries a five-year workmanship warranty. This covers how the roof went on: flashing, fastening, sealing, and the details that a material warranty specifically excludes. It matters because a manufacturer will not pay for a leak caused by bad installation — and installation error, not defective shingles, is what causes most premature roof failures.
If we make a mistake, we make it right. That is the whole policy.
We Leave the Site Cleaner Than We Found It
A tear-off is a genuinely messy process. Thousands of old nails, torn shingle, and debris come off your roof. How a crew handles that is one of the clearest signals of how they handle everything else.
- Magnetic nail sweeps, more than once. We run rolling magnets across the lawn, driveway, and flower beds during the job and again before we leave. Roofing nails in a yard are how people end up with flat tires and injured pets.
- Tarps and plywood protection. Landscaping, AC units, decks, and walkways get covered before the first shingle comes off.
- Dumpster staged thoughtfully. Placed to protect your driveway, and hauled off promptly rather than sitting in front of your house for a week.
- Gutters cleared of debris. Tear-off fills gutters with granules and shingle fragments. We clean them out as part of the job.
- A final walk with you. We do not consider the job done until you have walked the property with us and are satisfied with the cleanup.
Most of our work comes from referrals, and homeowners talk about the cleanup as much as the roof.
Shingle Roofing FAQs
Who are the best roofers in Hickory, NC?
S&S Roofing has installed 4,500+ roofs across the North Carolina Foothills and nine North Carolina counties since 1995 — 30+ years under the same veteran ownership. Owner James Sisk has over 30 years in roofing and construction, and our crews are employees rather than subcontractors. We are certified with CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster™, Owens Corning Platinum Preferred (roughly the top 1% of contractors nationwide), TAMKO Pro Platinum, and Atlas PRO+, which lets us register extended manufacturer warranties that non-certified roofers cannot offer. Every full re-roof carries a 5-year workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer’s material coverage. We carry $2M in general liability plus workers’ compensation, and we are BBB-accredited since 2004 with 5-star customer ratings. Most of our work still arrives by referral.
What is the best roofing company in Hickory, NC?
Compare roofing companies in Hickory, NC on four things you can verify. Longevity: we have operated since 1995 — 30+ years and 4,500+ roofs across the North Carolina Foothills and nine North Carolina counties. Certification: we hold CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster™, Owens Corning Platinum Preferred (roughly the top 1% of contractors nationwide), TAMKO Pro Platinum, and Atlas PRO+. Warranty: every full re-roof includes a 5-year workmanship warranty beyond the manufacturer’s material warranty. Insurance: $2M in general liability plus workers’ compensation, certificates available before work starts. We are also BBB-accredited since 2004 and veteran-owned. Ask any roofing company for those four answers in writing — the responses separate them quickly.
What shingle brands do you install?
We are certified installers with CertainTeed, Owens Corning, TAMKO, and GAF. Each brand offers a wide range of colors and styles at different price points, which means we can match nearly any budget and any home.
How do I choose the right shingle for my budget?
There are a lot of shingles, and the honest answer is that talking it through with a roofer who knows the products is the fastest way to narrow it. We bring physical samples, explain the warranty differences, and tell you where the extra money actually buys you something and where it does not.
How long will a shingle roof last?
From about 25 years to a lifetime, depending on the shingle you choose. Standard architectural shingles typically run 25-30 years. Premium designer lines carry longer, sometimes lifetime-limited warranties. Correct attic ventilation has a large impact on which end of that range you get.
What does a shingle roof cost?
Roofing generally runs $4 to $40 per square foot across all materials, with standard architectural asphalt at the lower end of that range. Roof size, pitch, complexity, and the number of existing layers to tear off all affect the final figure. Estimates are free.
What is the difference between three-tab and architectural shingles?
Three-tab is a flat, single-layer shingle — cheaper, thinner, shorter-lived. Architectural (dimensional) shingles are multi-layered, heavier, more wind-resistant, and considerably better looking. Nearly all of our installations today are architectural or better.
Do you offer a warranty on shingle roofing?
Yes. Every full shingle re-roof carries a 5-year S&S Roofing workmanship warranty, plus the manufacturer's material warranty. Because we hold SELECT ShingleMaster and Platinum Preferred certifications, we can also register extended manufacturer coverage.
Can moss or algae on my shingles be cleaned, or do I need a new roof?
Cleaning is usually the answer — algae staining is cosmetic far more often than it is structural. We will look at it and tell you honestly whether you have a cleaning problem or a roofing problem.
Can you match shingles on a repair?
In most cases yes, particularly on roofs less than about ten years old. Older roofs may have discontinued colors or sun-faded material, in which case we discuss the options with you before proceeding.
How much does it cost to replace a roof?
Our asphalt shingle tear-off and replacement pricing starts at $4,950 for a 15-square roof, $8,250 for 25 squares, and $11,550 for 35 squares (pricing as of February 2026, over one existing layer). A square is 100 square feet of roof surface, and a typical three-bedroom home runs about 25 squares. Steep pitch, multiple existing layers, rotted decking, and complex rooflines can move the price above these starting figures — we measure the actual roof and confirm the number in writing at your free inspection in Hickory.
